Entertaining at The Valley

Sometimes when you look at twitter its difficult to believe that we all watch the same game. I actually thought it was pretty even and it wouldn’t have been a travesty if we had won. If you look at the bare stats, we both had the same number of shots, they had more possession 55% to 45% but we had 11 corners to their 4. Admittedly Marquis missed an open goal but he does that every season. I thought it was thoroughly entertaining. Watson’s pass for CBT’s cross for the 2nd goal was exquisite and Jason Pearce was a warrior and had to cover for Soare who was very poor. Its always difficult to understand why some players like Pearce, Watson and dear old Pratley can play 90 minutes twice a week but Harry Arter, CBT, Ben Purrington, DJ, Inniss etc can’t manage a whole 90 minutes in any game.

I don’t normally bother commenting about the twitter messages to Thomas but some of our ’supporters’ are complete morons. To send Thomas abusive messages is just unbelievable. The bloke is subsidising our fun and passion at the rate of c £10m a year and he is trying his hardest. Some of the comments are disgusting.

I, for one, am very grateful to Thomas that I’ve got a football team to watch.

  1. The first half today was poor l thought although not as bad as that diabolical 1st half against Cheltenham. I wish NA would select a 442 formation and stick with it. He is like Ranieri when at Chelsea for being a Tinkerman with formations and switching team selection. We need a stable formation imo but l think he is trying too hard to be liked by the players and you can’t keep all of the people happy all of the time. It’s the downside of having a large squad.
I don’t agree with slagging off TS either. He is finding his feet in this business and very much deserves our respect and gratitude. I’m sure deep down he regrets fuelling the fans impatience for success with his ill-advised comments at the end of last season. While l recognise that TS wanted to bond with the fanbase asap through the medium of Twitter, l think he has shot himself in the foot by making himself too accessible. I think it would be wise for him to leave the toxic Twitter arena for a while until there is a positive upturn in the club’s fortunes.

  2. Yesss AA well said
TS don’t pick the team, set the formation, choose the tactics. Just sticks his hand in his sky rocket. Every week.
We ain’t great as a team right now but will get there. Maybe with NA maybe not but we’ll get there.
And anyone that abuses TS needs to be dealt with same way as them morons what sit on m25

    • Too much negativity from fans…..it was Bowyer out….now it’s Adkins out …..IF that happens in comes a new guy or JJ and if not immediate success it’s JJ or whoever else out ! Charlton are re-building from virtual ruin by the grace of the new owner TS and I am confident of playoffs this year as the team gels together…maybe auto promotion next year if we don’t make it ! An awful lot of Charlton fans (or should it be a lot of awful Charlton fans) are expecting miracles….a new manager won’t be able to do this and Jesus isn’t around today so let’s keep faith with what we’ve got and encourage and support the club ! No more management or player abuse please….doesn’t do their morale any good.

  4. First of all and most import of all thank you Thomas for saving my club.
I also thought the game was quite entertaining but we are still papering over the cracks.
I have supported Charlton since the mid sixties and over the years I have watched some terrible Charlton players and seen some terrible teams but the managers at the time were doing their best with what they had.
In my opinion we have some very good players but the Manager has no idea how to use them.
Over the years I have been able to look down on the games and understand what was happening on the pitch, who was playing, where they were playing, why they were playing and what the system was.
This season I have no idea what’s happening.
    It’s a shambles.
    Taxi for Nigel – NOW.

  5. Yeah well I don’t read the ate speech on twitter n their ubris on there abusin free specch. Ere are we aint goin to win many games under Adkins thass why with the players wot we now ave e should be doin better. So iss time for Adkins to be let go no matter ow entertainin the game was the facts only 1 win in 9 n 5 losses the facts speak for theirselves n thass all there is to it on ere.

  6. TS deserves enormous thanks for saving CAFC,(partially), remember who owns the ground and Sparrows Lane. We have had these enormous rebuilds of the team each summer for several consecutive years- each year defying the odds- so IF it has gone wrong its hardly surprising.
The future is much more stabile with better contracts being offered to players, so building a better squad ,player by player, each transfer window.
