How about giving that a try tomorrow night ? Presumably we will have no strikers available again.
Grinding out a 0-0 draw would be a excellent result given the current availability of players and loss of form for many of those who are playing. We have reached a point where even a visit from those titans of football history, MK Dons in the 3rd division has to be viewed with huge trepidation.
Has anyone ever tried 2 goalkeepers with 9 outfielders – is that actually permitted. We could have MacG covering the left and Hendo the right side of the goal. Hendo comes for the corners and crosses whilst MacG does the shot stopping and holding onto long shots. Maybe we could have 5 centre halves in front of them. The possibilities are endless.
I’m glad I don’t have JJ’s job !
Well that was terrible, although without a recognised striker it was always going to be tough. Oxford were good but we made them look like Barcelona.
There are just too many poor or weak players in the team. I’m not a fan of any of our midfielders apart from Dobson. The combination of Morgan, Lee and Gilbey is just weak. For next season, I would keep one of them only. We need to add more strength alongside Dobbo.
Our 2 wingbacks or whatever they are called, Purringon seems to have completely lost his mojo/ confidence. Apart from allowing Taylor to score the first, he just looks miserable about playing football. Adam ( show the guy inside yet again for goal no 3) Matthews just looks clueless
Leko isn’t a striker or a winger in fact I don’t know what role he is equipped to perform. DJ is a middling 3rd division winger, not even as good as Danny Green or Scott Wagstaff from previous 3rd division teams.
The only bright sparks today were Burstow who played well when he came on and the late cameo from Campbell.
We have problems galore and a huge clear out of players will be needed in the summer. Thomas appears to have business woes with the value of Zynex dropping alarmingly over the last 12 months. I hope he’s still got the financial firepower and motivation to invest enough to make us competitive next season.
I’m going to give Tuesday night a miss because we have zero chance of getting a result against MK Dons. Ive never had a bet against Charlton and I’m not going to start now but MK Dons to win by at least 2 goals looks nailed on to me. Who knows how long the strikers are out for but if it lasts for much longer the last couple of months are going to get very nervy. Sorry to be pessimistic tonight but it was awful wasn’t it !
There is a lot of angst about JJ’s league position contract deal with Sandgaard .
It seems to me that the deal makes perfect sense. In the event that the results had continued to dip under JJ as they did under Adkins and we were in danger of relegation then the fans would be calling for JJ’s head regardless of how well he is regarded.
I think JJ has done a good job so far but given that there is still a small chance of us getting dragged into a relegation battle, if I was Thomas I’d want to be sure that was a not an outcome before I confirmed JJ’s position for next season. Hopefully, we are pretty close to that now.
I am all in favour of giving JJ a clear run at next season as early as is sensible but I understand where Thomas is coming from.
There is also no doubt that the current group of players with a few exceptions are nowhere good enough to get us promoted next year.In terms of the team there is a lot of work to be done to be competitive. We need more warriors like Innis, Dobson and Stockley on the pitch. This division is brutal and relentless and we have too many inconsistent players.
Early recruitment this summer will be key rather than all this hanging around – all the business has to be done late nonsense – by which time we’ve already lost a few games next August, while the team beds in !!
