Does anyone know what is going on at Charlton ?

What is it about football clubs and particularly Charlton that the people who actually matter, for whom the club exists and was originally formed for. ie the paying customers or fans as they are traditionally known , have absolutely no sensible information about their football club’s ownership or future.

It is scandalous and wrong.

Is Thomas Sandgaard selling the club or not ? Charlie Methven, who has a reputation in business and football clubs as an aggressive bully says he isn’t buying the club and hasn’t got any money but has appeared at every game for the last 2 months.Who on earth is he representing ? Have they got any money,- why buy Charlton when it’s a money pit – maybe it’s a property play, but Roland owns all the property so that would be very long term and probably impossible.

The club is selling or giving away a lot of the senior players, JFC, Gilbey, Stockley, Kirk, Macgillivray and replacing them with a few short term loans. Andy Scott was supposedly on a 6 week contract to get us players, presumably his main job was to get rid rather than acquire, is he even still in the building ? As an aside Fleetwood have now acquired a decent strike pairing for this division with Stockley and Marriott- how can they afford that on crowds of 3,000. Its a mystery.

Why is the whole situation so opaque. Thomas and whoever, you might own the football club’s shares but all of you are just temporary, we are the real owners- the fans and we want to know what is going on NOW !!!!

  1. Methven is an Old Etonian. Says it all really . Thomas probably wants away so he can graduate to a higher standard of Guitar playing .

“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we
    are. They are different. ”

  2. 👏👏👏👏
Well said Albury….loyal fans who fund the club to a degree by attending games are being treated like dirt….no information coming from TS or media department regarding ownership.
All we get is constant news of players departing and short term replacements coming in.
We need stability and I’m very very very worried about the near future, if the club has one ?

    • Like it or not, the only thing people like Sandgaard and Methven understand and listen to is money. More players are exiting than arriving with only hours left before the transfer window closes. The majority of those that have been signed are only loans and this kicks the problem down the road and makes it harder to put together a competitive squad. Rather than build, the owner is dismantling. The lack of communication and engagement proves that the fans are being treated with contempt. Withholding funds, boycotting season tickets, and not buying merchandise is the lifeblood of the club and the only thing this/these owner’s will take note of. We have a choice and we have leverage. It’s up to us.

  3. Great article & very worrying but has it ever been any different!? I think we are in a very dangerous phase in our history and the vultures are well and truly circling. Question. Do we think Sandgaard keeping 20% and this current lot investing small amounts will enhance our chances of being in the future taken over by someone who wishes to purchase all assets! Answer No! Personally I think we’ll end up renting or purchasing a smaller ground and this lot will profit from the land. Government legislation is needed now or we could end up finished. I’m not bought by loaning players for three months!

    • I share your concerns but realistically football hardly comes up high in any Government’s priorities. We’re still waiting for “Brexit opportunities “ to manifest themselves. In the learned lyrics sung by Diana Ross “ I’m Still Waiting !”

  4. To buy Charlton would be …rd50mill..ts15mill? Competitive team for this div 10mill. Martin Samuels once said for every pound taken by, the club was spending £1.25. Therefore we need a sugar daddy with money to burn or back to ground sharing with perhaps Welling?. Hope I am completely wrong. Perhaps Peter Varney can ride to the rescue.coyr.
