Andy Scott is a drunken sailor

Andy Scott is running around the transfer market like a drunken sailor with a hole in his pocket trying to buy players, particularly strikers.

Following on from the JCH saga it seems we have now been rejected by Cheltenham’s young forward Will Goodwin who apparently prefers a move to Oxford ( yes , I know Oxford , who’d have thought they could be a more attractive option) even though we offered him more money. We can’t get Ladapo either so Heavens after those three , who will Andy turn to next ?

The rather depressing thing about all this is that we could and should have solved this problem in the Summer. If you take JCH, for example. We could have bought him in the summer for similar money as we offered in this window and I would suggest that had we done so, we would be challenging in the Top 6 now.

Leaburn was already out injured in pre season and Chuks never lasts very long sadly, so instead Andy Scott brought in Tedic , who I wouldn’t have picked for my Sunday League team.

I remain optimistic that the new owners will get it right in the medium term, but if we don’t get a sensible strike partner in soon, it’s likely to be a relegation battle this season.

You need to find a solution and earn your money Andy !!

  1. Your views are subjective and utter nonsensical. To say that could have …is farcical as you have no evidence to support such claim. Oxford are a better option , get ur head out of the sand and face up that we are mid-table league 1 side , who once touched the heights of the premiership.
We are not attractive club at this point in time. So get behind the club , be a real supporter and leave the negativity to the sad people who claim to supporters.

    • Get Real – are you sure you aren’t Andy Scott !! – obviously my views are subjective , it’s a blog and they are opinions. If you have read my other blogs in 2024 you will see that I have been relentlessly optimistic but the striker situation since pre season has been a predictable mess which could have been avoided

      • Predictable mess.. u can see the future .. wow..
u saw Leaburn long term long injury.
Defending has been our biggest concern and a weak midfield.
Clearly you are not seeing that ..
ur top 6 with JCH prediction is just ridiculous.. stop conceding late goals and keeping clean sheets that is how you get to top 6 ..

      • They currently are.. when did we last beat them ? They finish higher than us and get to the play offs .. this season will be the same.
take off those rose tinted glasses and face up to the facts. It is were we are .. not an attractive club to join currently.

  2. Agree with some of that AA.

To see a guy from Cheltenham Town prefer a move to Oxford than to us, reveals the depths to which our club has sunk (I’ve followed them from the late 1950s onwards, I confess, and spent years watching from the press box (although not of late).

Why would I want to buy tickets and put money in the pockets of people like Duchatalet, Sangaard and SE7 ? All talk, all promise, little action and above all, in the case of all three, no judgement. You’d be reading this all night if we wrote down the failures of players during those regimes.

But can’t agree with you about we’d have been in the Top 6 by now if we’d signed JCH last summer. Would he have spent the crucial last 15 mins of a game, from the 85th minute on towards the 100th, in deep defence, heroically clearing goal bound shots off the line because of mistakes by our so-called defenders? I doubt it.

As regards Andy Scott, whoever he may be, if he knew anything about a football team and club, you ALWAYS build a successful team from the back. Even if you’re not scoring, if you don’t concede it’s a regular accumulation of points. Charlton have thrown away so many crucial points because they can’t defend as a collective. Until that is fixed, we could have Haaland at the other end but we’d still only get draws. And they’re not enough to go up with.

This has all been a long time coming. It leaves only one question. If this lot end up trekking down the Duchatalet/Sangaard road, will there be a proper CAFC left?
    Happy New Year !!

  3. yes , I know Oxford , who’d have thought they could be a more attractive option
    ………..

The same Oxford who’ve beaten us twice this year and are further up the table and look likely to be in the play-offs, while making that stage will be a miracle for us? I can’t possibly think why he preferred them to us – that is if it was a pure footballing reason. There may be non-football reasons too…

We would be higher up L1 with JCH in our squad but he’s a striker not a defender and we’ve made too many basic mistakes at that end of the pitch, that’s why we are where we are in the table. So unless JCH can play as an emergency centre-back I don’t see how we would be in the top 6 with him.

The truth is over the last few years we’ve gone through several different owners and managers, our recruitment has been piecemeal, chaotic and lacked a coherent plan with too many fingers in the pie. Watching Posh last Saturday I could see what consistency in management/ownership gets you, even with a lower budget.

We’re now asking Andy Scott to fix this mess in five minutes and then pouring shit over him when he predictably fails to succeed and then declaring him a failure. We need to take a two/three maybe four transfer window view on it and look at recruitment, tactics, coaching, injury prevention, analysis and a lot of other stuff. I’m impressed though with the club’s actions in this transfer window and that they aren’t going to hose money at one player in particular just to get a deal done. If JCH thinks he can earn more elsewhere then fine – but we’ve offered £500k and then put what amounts to decent payrise on the table, possibly he’s been offered more elsewhere if he lets his contract run down. Offering transfer fees is not a guarantee of success – look at what Scott Fraser, Jayden Stockley, Charlie Kirk, Sam Lavelle, Chuks Aneke have given us since we paid over money for them – our best players over the last two/three years have been Dobbo and CBT both free transfers.

  4. It aint right wot e says on King Roland. Im n Queen Kat nearly kept ourn in the Champs when they ired King Lee as gaffer. Ourn only juss missed ahrt on stayin up that year n all. Ere are I agree on the defendin but we need better defenders n defendin all over the pitch n thass wass missin, also changin formatino to 4-4-2 would elp support upfront.
